Why "Sablefish"?
A name with a story
Sablefish Wellness & Research is named in honor of my father, Clifford Johnson, who passed away in early 2025 at the age of 88 — healthy and joyful right up to the end.
Dad grew up in Idaho and, beginning in the late 1950s, served in the U.S. Navy aboard the submarine USS Sablefish. He trained as an electrician there, carried that trade to Boeing, and later used the same skills to build houses. He held plenty of jobs and ran more than a few businesses over the years, but nothing lit him up like telling stories about his time on the Sablefish. The Navy showed him the world; he came home certain that Idaho was the most beautiful place to live and raise a family.
We were close. We shared our faith, a love of football and the outdoors, and an entrepreneurial streak. I was blessed with parents who loved and supported my sisters and me, and who always cared for others first.
The sablefish itself is a Pacific Northwest native, found in the deep, cold waters off the West Coast — and it is remarkably long-lived, with lifespans approaching the century mark. That number matters to me. My personal goal is to live to at least 100, and to make those years healthy and happy ones.
That's the mission Sablefish Wellness & Research carries forward: caring for others first, so more people can live long, healthy, joyful lives.
